I guess my formative years of playing guitar was mostly around classical stuff and my guitar teacher. It’s still at middle schools, deeply classically-trained, that kind of thing. And the one thing that struck me was actually not to do with that. My English teacher handed me a tape back in the day and on it was a copy of A Hard Road by John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, featuring Peter Green. And I never heard anything like it by the time I got through to one particular track called The Supernatural. I mean, there’s a 14 year old kid who hadn’t really played electric guitar, or anything like that suddenly coming across this ethereal noise coming out of this little cassette. It was like how are they doing that? How? and Why? So many questions were opened up. It’s one of those things where you kind of keep chasing these dreams and keep chasing this idea. And you’re just like, wow, amazing really amazing. But yes, I think it is also sort of like the passing on of torches, the fact that my English teacher reached to the point of going this person clearly needs to hear this music.
