Way, back in the 1990s, I went to see The English Patient and at the time I was painting a lot and studying art. So I took my eldest daughter with me to see The English Patient and during the film, the part that I remember most vividly is the discovery of the artwork in a disused Italian church. It was Juliette Binoche who plays a nurse She was taken there by the Indian soldier who was played by Naveen Andrews and he put her into harness in this pitch black church and they swung from one side of the wall to the other. And as they did, he had a lighter in his hand which illuminated these amazing frescoes on the wall, and for me, it was a very special moment. Because in the midst of all this war and suffering, he was showing her some beautiful works of art. And that has always stayed with me in and the memory of this lovely moment when a man, he’s fallen in love with this young woman, and he wanted to share with her the beauty of the artworks that he discovered.
